Termite Droppings

Identifying termite droppings is a common way to detect if your home has been infested and infiltrated. The first thing people search for when they think their house is being invaded by unwanted pests is their droppings. The second anybody sees a dropping of any type they immediately are aware that there are pests around. It’s a universal method of figuring out what type of animal, if any, have been finding their way into your home. This method also bodes well when it comes to figuring out if there are termites nearby.

One of the scariest things about coming across termite droppings for the first time is that you are not sure how long these pests have been there. These droppings are usually found in areas of the home or house that are not freqeuently visited. The second you come across the droppings you start pacing, how long have they been here, where did they come from, where else are they? All these worries and questions can really overwhelm someone. First though, before going any further you should figure out if these droppings really are from termites.

Termite droppings, also known as termite frass, will be easiest to spot inside the house, instead of outdoors. If outdoors, these droppings will most likely blend in with natural dirt, dust and other things of the sort. It’ll be hard to really spot them and identify them as droppings. Termites infest in massive groups, often you will find big trails of these droppings. They will look like bits of sand, dirt and sawdust. Most often in long trails but also can be in circular groupings. The look of the droppings all depends on what the termites have been feasting on but most likely you will be able to refer to them as sawdust like. They will be piles of very tiny sized particles with different shades of brown.

Don’t worry though because termite droppings themselves aren’t really harmful. It’s the fact that termites are there that makes it troublesome. You will want to look around the house for potential termite droppings and contact an exterminator to being treating. Most of the time you will notice the droppings before any other sigsn of termites and is a good way to jump on them quickly before more damage is done.
